Publications

This section includes a few of the printed and online woodcarving magazines. The online publications provide links to other woodcarving sites.

  •  Chip Chats is published by the National Woodcarvers Association. This magazine features articles from clubs around the world, patterns, show news, and resources.
  •  WOOD Magazine Online is the online version of the Better Homes and Gardens publication. It features patterns, resources, and articles for woodcarvers and woodworkers. Wonderful resource site!
  •  Woodcarver Online Magazine (WOM) is the first online woodcarving only magazine. It contains feature articles and comments from carvers worldwide.
  •  DECOY MAGAZINE is the ultimate source for decoy collectors!

Carving Clubs

This section includes a few clubs, guilds, or related organizations. These should help you locate a club in your area.

  • The Atlanta Woodcarvers Club was founded in 1976 by a group of carvers in the Atlanta area with the purpose of promoting woodcarving/wood sculpting on all levels of performance, and providing fellowship and support to local woodcarvers.
  • The Tannehill Woodcarvers Club was chartered in 1985 for the purpose of promoting the art of wood carving in the Birmingham / Bessemer Alabama area, to acquaint the general public with sculpturing in wood and to bring back and preserve the almost lost art of woodcarving. The Club meets on the second Saturday of each month in Tannehill State Park's Historic Cane Creek Schoolhouse.

Carving Classes and Schools

This section includes a few places to take a carving class. Visit the VENDORs and CARVERs section. Some of the carvers and supply houses offer instruction.

  •   Rumbling Water Studios and Gallery is own and operated by Carol Jean Boyd. Not only is she a member of our association, she is an excellent carver and recognized throughout the United States. She is based in Wetumpka, Alabama.
  • Alabama Folk School at Camp McDowell began offering workshops for adult students to learn about folk art as well as more contemporary art in 2008. You can learn a lot more than carving wood.
  •  John C. Campbell Folk School provides a variety of carving classes in Brasstown, NC. This beautiful facility is nestled in the Southern Highlands of the Great Smoky Mountains. 
  • Gene Webb runs a school in Townsend, TN. In addition to teaching, he sells carving supplies.
